Award Structure

1. The Bookish Reader’s Pick (Year-Round)

  • Open for nominations throughout the year.
  • Books are selected on a rolling basis.
  • Winners receive a special feature in The Bookish Magazine website.
  • All winners are automatically nominated for The Bookish Book of the Year title.

2. Possible Annual Award Categories

The Bookish Reader’s Pick winners may be eligible for the following annual award categories, but selection is NOT guaranteed and is subject to the platform’s discretion. Winners may or may not be announced for a given year.

The Bookish Book of the Year

  • All The Bookish Reader’s Pick winners are eligible for possible shortlisting.
  • The Bookish Book of the Year winner, if selected, receives a feature spotlight on the cover of both the print and digital editions of our magazine. However, a winner is not guaranteed each year, as the judging panel may choose whether or not to select one from among the shortlisted nominees.

General Awards

  • Debut Author of the Year – Celebrating an outstanding first-time author.
  • Most Anticipated Book Award – For a book that generated significant buzz before release.
  • Cover Design Excellence – Honouring the most stunning and creative book covers.
  • Best Self-Published Book – Recognising excellence in indie publishing.
  • Best Adaptation – For a book successfully adapted into film, TV, or theatre.

Genre-Specific Awards

  • Best Fantasy Novel – For the most captivating fantasy story.
  • Best Science Fiction Novel – Recognising groundbreaking sci-fi.
  • Best Mystery/Thriller – Celebrating a gripping and masterfully crafted mystery.
  • Best Historical Fiction – For the most immersive historical narrative.
  • Best Romance Novel – Honouring a heartfelt and well-written romance.
  • Best Horror Novel – Awarding the most terrifying and well-crafted horror story.
  • Best Young Adult Book – Recognising excellence in YA fiction.
  • Best Children’s Book – Celebrating an outstanding children’s book.
  • Best Graphic Novel – For the most compelling and visually striking graphic novel.

Thematic & Special Awards

  • Most Inspirational Book – Recognising a book that uplifted and motivated readers.
  • Best Social Impact Book – For books that drive positive change.
  • Best Diverse Representation – Celebrating books that champion inclusivity.
  • Best Climate Fiction (Cli-Fi) Book – Recognising a book that explores climate themes.
  • Best Book by an Emerging Voice – Awarding an underrepresented or new author.
  • Best Short Story Collection – Honouring a stellar collection of short fiction.
  • Best Poetry Collection – Recognising the most beautiful and evocative poetry book.

Selection Criteria for The Bookish Awards

1. The Bookish Reader’s Pick (Year-Round)

Eligibility:

  • Open to books across all genres and publishing formats (traditional, indie, and self-published).
  • Must be available for purchase or widely accessible to readers.
  • Can be nominated by authors, publishers, or readers subject to terms and conditions.

Selection Process:

  • Books are nominated throughout the year.
  • Selection is based on a combination of marketing effort, engagement, reader reviews, and editorial evaluation.
  • Books with strong storytelling, originality, and reader impact will be prioritised.
  • Winners are announced on a rolling basis and featured on The Bookish Magazine website.

2. Possible Annual Award Categories

Eligibility:

  • Books/authors must meet the criteria for their respective category (e.g., debut authors for Debut Author of the Year).
  • Books may be traditionally published, indie, or self-published.
  • Adaptations must be officially released to qualify for Best Adaptation.

Selection Process:

  • Winners are chosen at the discretion of The Bookish Magazine team based on nominations, editorial review, and reader impact.
  • Some categories may be awarded based on a mix of reader engagement, industry merit, and editorial decision.
  • Not all categories will be awarded each year—only books that truly stand out will be recognised.

How to Nominate & Vote

  • Nominations: Open throughout the year. The nomination process begins with authors, publishers, or copyright owner representatives requesting a complimentary review. Readers can also contribute by submitting a review, ensuring no conflict of interest exists. This review assesses the book’s qualification for the awards.
  • Selection: Our panel of readers will determine which books qualify to receive The Bookish Reader’s Pick award.
  • Winners Announcement: Announced in The Bookish Magazine website and possibly featured on our other platforms.

To nominate a book, authors, publishers, and copyright holders can request a complimentary review. Passionate readers in our community may also submit reviews, provided they have no conflicts of interest. These reviews determine if a book meets the award standards.

Award Badge for Winners

Winning books are entitled to use The Bookish Award Winner‘s badge, a symbol of literary prestige and achievement. The badge can be displayed on book covers, websites, and promotional materials to highlight this distinguished recognition.

Guidelines for Badge Use:

  • The badge must only be used for the winning book.
  • The design, colors, and text must remain unaltered.
  • Prior permission is required for commercial use.
